If You’re Becoming a Uni Student In 2026, You Need to Hear This

So you’re new to being a student 🤔

And maybe you’re not sure what that means for you. After all, new experiences can be full of uncertainties.

But take it from us, there are a lot of things to look forward to when it comes to being a uni student.

Here are some of the things you need to hear now as you enter this new phase of life.

You can change your mind.

Contrary to popular belief, most students don’t pick what they are going to do with their lives at the ripe old age of 17 and stick with it.

We’re bound to change our minds and find new things we’re interested in.

It’s ok if you change your mind about your course, your life goals and even your expectations.

It may seem weird to say ‘it’s ok to fail’ but there’s nothing wrong with getting things wrong and changing your mind.

It’s also totally okay to defer and come back to uni later, drop out and do a TAFE course instead or simply go your own way without a degree or certification.

It’s all about the experience.

We’re not saying never go to class or stop studying. Please still keep up with your exams and assignments.

But clubs, casual jobs and internships are where you’re going to make the most of your uni experience. More often than not those are the kind of things that stand out on a resume.

And it’s where you can meet heaps of new people and make some new friends.

It’s always helpful to meet people studying or going through the same life stage as you.

Be open to being wrong.

There’s a high chance you will freak out because the path you thought you were going to take, isn’t the path that’s meant for you.

But contrary to popular belief, it’s ok to be wrong.

It just means you’re learning what works and what doesn’t work for you. And that’s a pretty valuable life lesson in and of itself.

Being a tertiary student can be some of the best years of your life. So we hope this is the start to a pretty epic student journey for you!
