Hugh Grant Dancing to “Hotline Bling” in the “Love Actually” Sequel Helped Raise $100m for Charity (Basically)

We can’t give him all the credit. Just most of it.

The Love Actually “sequel” screened on British TV over the weekend, and a full ten per cent of it was dedicated to Hugh Grant dancing to “Hotline Bling”.

As both fans and haters of Love Actually would agree, this is the appropriate percentage.

The ten-minute special was produced for BBC's Comic Relief, which is held on Red Nose Day and aims to raise money for poverty and social injustice across the world. The 2017 edition of Comic Relief has already collected more than £71m ($AUD100m) so far.

And though critics were not kind to the quality of Richard Curtis’ Love Actually sketch, which saw most of the original film’s cast return, the internet decided Grant’s dance moves exceeded all modest expectations of what a Love Actually sequel could deliver.

His Prime Minister character also delivered a speech about “the power of good” that felt especially resonant in the wake of last week’s attack on Westminster Bridge.

Oh, and Comic Relief included a sketch where Rebel Wilson and Kylie Minogue auditioned to be Stephen Hawking’s new voice.

(Yeah, Comic Relief did not get great reviews in general, but $AUD100m raised for charity is nothing to sneeze at.)
