How to Watch the "Gavin and Stacey" Christmas Special in Australia

When James Corden revealed in May he was working with former collaborator Ruth Jones on a new episode of their beloved comedy series Gavin & Stacey, well, it was basically a pre-Christmas miracle.

Now we actually know when Santa will drop the episode down our proverbial chimneys in Australia: 26 December on ABC COMEDY and ABC iview at 8pm.

Sure, it’s not quite in time for Christmas down under, but given the almost-exactly-10-year wait between this special and the last ep of the show (which aired 1 January 2010), we can agree to hold out for another 24 hours.

For those who’ve never seen the show, it tracked the fast-moving romance between Essex lad Gavin Shipman (Matthew Horne) and Welshwoman Stacey West (Joanna Page), and the coming-together of their nutty families, not to mention the electric, occasionally baffling encounters between Gav’s best mate Smithy (James Corden) and Stacey’s worldly BFF Nessa (Jones).

This latest Christmas Special picks up 10 years after we last saw the Shipmans and the Wests, with Stacey’s Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) cooking dinner for both households. And that is precisely all we want to know about the new episode until we see it for ourselves.

Okay, we’ll accept this exceptionally small teaser as well:

Will it live up to expectations? Will it re-wrap up the show's storyline satisfactorily? Will it reignite interest in the series and spark a fourth season?

Look, given Corden’s post-Gavin & Stacey commitments, let's just enjoy what we've got today!
