How to Use Your Real-Life Experience to Get Into Uni

With or without an ATAR, there are plenty of pathways to uni.
This article is presented in partnership with The University of Western Australia.
Are you keen to go to uni, but not quite sure what your options are? 🎓
At Student Edge, we know your ATAR results do not define you. So if you feel like your upcoming results doesn't reflect what you're truly capable of, there's some great entry pathways out there for you.
Thanks to unis like The University of Western Australia (UWA), who are offering experience-based entry🎉

It’s also a great way of making uni an option for those who didn't take an ATAR pathway, or for those who want to start uni later in life and want a degree under their belt.
What’s experience-based entry?
Experience-based entry programs allow you to show your potential and ability to succeed in uni through both your academic achievements and life experience.
Think back to any of your sporting and community achievements, volunteering, casual or part-time jobs, TAFE study and co-curricular activities, as well as your education.
So all those extra things you've doing outside your studies? #Worth it.

Which courses are on offer through Experience-based entry?
UWA offer a great range of study choices through their Experience-based entry program. The following undergrad degrees are on offer at UWA through the program, including a wide variety of majors to choose from:
- Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science
- Bachelor of Business
- Bachelor of Commerce
- Bachelor of Environmental Design
- Bachelor of Science
- Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)
How does UWA’s Experience-based entry work?
Your application will be assessed using a points system where you’re awarded points for each achievement you submit. For example, volunteer time at an animal shelter, representing your state in a national sporting championship, completing a Cert II, or work accomplishments will be assigned points.
The total number of points you rack up then determines your eligibility.

How do I apply?
If this sounds like something for you, UWA can support you to take the next step in your education journey and help you achieve those career goals.
Visit UWA’s website to learn more about Experience-based entry 🎓 Applications are open for Semester 1, 2024.
