How To Get’cha Head In The Game For Semester 2 (After A Disappointing Semester 1)

Semester 1 results have been released and my heart sinks; I know I can do better.
The approaching teaching period has me scrambling for the to-do list pads and diaries but these aren't the secret to success.
I think the biggest challenge in rescuing my year is dependent on my mindset. There are two landscapes that need some TLC before I tackle Semester 2.
The first landscape is internal. It's corny (and I'm sure an off-key, energetic rendition of Zac Efron's "Get'cha Head In The Game" could sum up what I have to say) but it is important: It's vital that you take care of your head and yourself no matter what challenge you're trying to overcome.
So, before the stress sets in, find some ways to cool off and take breaks. There are so many options around to relieve stress nowadays, especially with the surge of mindfulness in the mainstream. Find the method, or methods, that center you and keep them handy when the stress levels rise.
Another inward-reflecting challenge is finding confidence to not compare yourself to others. My semester usually comes unstuck if I fall into the trap of thinking I have to compete against my classmates and that I've fallen behind.
When I think I'm far behind it becomes a repeating cycle of procrastination and guilt. A key fact to remember is that you aren't competing against your classmates; you only need to compete against yourself.
Those classmates aren't setting the bar for you to pass; you are all travelling through this semester together and can help one another. People approach assignments differently and have different strengths. It doesn't matter if you're the last to start the assignment or you haven't memorised that chapter yet; your past self is the only competition to beat.
The second landscape is your study space; this one is a little more fun to shape. This includes everything from the bright pops of stationery to how straight the back of your chair is. If you look online there are a million guides and hints for how other people design their planners, study schedules and notebooks. Experiment with these tips and tricks to find your perfect match.
If you keep these thoughts in mind, Semester 2 won't stand a chance.
Education can spark such passion; however, it can also be very draining. If you are experiencing distress or need some help beyond your classmates visit the counsellors or support services on your campus. These services could also provide more specific tips for your course or to fit your school's teaching style.
Now, let's save this year with a cracker of a second semester.
