How To Get Motivated For Exercise

How To Get Motivated For Exercise

Exercise is something we all struggle with, whether you’re young or old, big or small.

You may be used to running 100 times around the block, but it's still tough to get up off the couch the next time; to stop eating all the ice cream and just exercise!

So, how can we become motivated for such a physical burden on our lives?

1. Find Your Sport

Everyone has an athletic side and though it may be a long and hard search to find it, it will always be there! Finding a sport or activity you enjoy can be the key to staying fit and healthy. Exercise doesn’t just have to be running on the treadmill or pumping weights in the gym. There are a range of sports and activities that can be so motivating and a heap of fun, whether it’s dancing, playing tennis, swimming, ice-skating... anything! Keeping active is keeping fit. Before you know it, rather than struggling to get off the couch, you will be jumping up excited to get into it.

2. Exercise With Mates

Exercising can be long and inconvenient when you have to do it alone, but the great thing about exercise is that everyone needs to do it at some stage. People of all ages can socialise when running or playing sports. Making friends on your new team, or meeting up with some old school mates for a morning jog is what makes it worthwhile. You don’t have to be in competition with the person on the treadmill next to you when you bring a pal to the gym, though it definitely encourages you to keep up with their pace and challenge yourself.

3. Get A Dog

I don’t think I saw my family exercise so much until we got a dog. We have a Border Collie and I didn’t know how much they ran until we got it! Dogs are great companions to run with. If you get a strong, fit breed, they will gladly challenge you to go your fastest pace, and then again slow down when you need to. If you’re a walker, there is no problem getting a smaller or less active dog to heel by your side. Dogs are especially effective when no one else will come with you on a walk around the block (or if you think no one else in your house can keep up with you). If you’re looking for this kind of motivation, a dog is definitely the way to go.

In conclusion, a few of the effective techniques used to motivate yourself to exercise can be finding your sport, doing it with some friends, or getting a dog. I thoroughly encourage you to take on one of these tips, and hope you have fun with it.
