Feeling Over It? How to Deal with End of Year Burnout

Leave those feelings in 2024
There are approximately 11 days until the end of 2024 and some of us are figuring out our new years resolutions and getting the good vibes ready.
But maybe 2024 has got you feeling rundown, tired and just all around over it.
The feeling of end of year burnout is real and it can definitely take a toll on anyone.
End of year burnout is the feeling of both physical and emotional exhaustion that tends to happen towards the end of the year. You could be feeling fatigued, irritable, have difficulty concentrating or lacking motivation.
It can be caused by anything from things like a particularly stressful year, personal reflection, or maybe the holiday period is just not a happy time for you.
And while you might want to just avoid all feelings of uneasiness, it’s easier said than done. Here’s our tips on how you can try and tackle the EOY burnout.
Set your boundaries early.

Work making you stressed? Not in the mood to make certain plans? Or is seeing particular family or friends making you anxious?
If no one’s said this to you yet let us be the first: it’s okay to say no.
You are allowed to say no to making plans. And you are allowed to take a mental health day at work. Often setting those boundaries early when you’re beginning to feel EOY burnout creep in, is the best way to manage it.
Setting these boundaries before the year ends is also a great way to start the new year right in 2025!
Set realistic expectations.

You’re probably not going to finish everything you wanted to get done by the end of the year. And that’s ok.
There’s a good chance you’re not alone in that boat.
Take a look at the things you want to get done before the end of year and reassess your priorities. Need to buy Christmas presents? Shift this task into the priority box.
Need to make that dentist appointment? It can probably wait until the new year.
Disconnect from technology and social media.

Ngl, we are the first to admit sometimes it can be comforting to have a little scroll on social media to disassociate from the world.
While it is nice to have a little scroll, if you’re already feeling burnt out it might not be helpful to see everyone posting about their 2025 goals or their 2025 in’s and out’s.
Social media is great! But healthy usage of social media is even better. Don’t be afraid to turn your phone off or delete your social media apps if you need a breather.
Write down what you accomplished this year.

It can be easy to feel down and like you didn’t achieve anything this year – especially if you are already feeling burnt out.
But take the time to write down what you achieved this year. No one’s asking you to achieve greatness but it’s worth noting down all you got done.
These can be things from waking up on time for class, to trying new things, or even that you explored new eateries in your city. Start small and work your way up.

At the end of the day if your EOY burnout is really affecting you, speak to someone you trust or a professional.
It’s important to get help when you need it. And getting help is the first step to starting your new year off right.
If you’re feeling a bit of this right now, we gotchu, we’re thinking of you and we’re sending good vibes your way 🫶
