Find an award that best suits you.

This post is presented in partnership with the Flinders University.

If you’re thinking about university but aren’t super keen on racking up a huge debt, why not consider applying for a scholarship?

International student fees in particular can really start to build up, but with a scholarship behind you, some of that stress can be taken off your shoulders so you can focus more on your studies.

The benefits of a scholarship don’t stop at financial savings either. There is so much value in gaining an education award, you won’t want to pass on the opportunity.

Before you get down on yourself, you should know that scholarships are for everyone, and anyone can apply. There are so many diverse types of scholarships available at so many universities, you’re sure to find something to suit you. You don’t even have to be at the top of your class to get a little fee help . Let’s explain!

Why you should apply.

While it is very obvious, it has to be said: the best part about scholarships are the monetary savings you get while you achieve your degree, but they really do offer more than just that.

Gaining a scholarship may also help you find connections or assist you in building a network with other incredible professionals in your field. Some programs offer courses that focus on building these connections to help give you that edge in the job market once you graduate.

Speaking of jobs, scholarships can also help post-uni because they’ll look good on your resume. Not only will achieving a scholarship show evidence of high academic performance, but, depending on your award, they may also shine a light on specific skills, highlight your commitment and let employers know that you are willing to go for what you want.

Types of scholarships.

Finding the right scholarship for you can sometimes be hard because there are so many out there.

Luckily, Flinders University has made it really easy for international students to find a program that will best suit them and their degree.

Flinders University offers international students Go Beyond Scholarships that are designed to recognise students who have achieved high academic performance to help them pursue their educational goals, career aspirations and make a positive impact to Flinders and the global community. These awards offer international students up to 50 per cent off their tuition fees for the full duration of their course.

While it’s kind of weird time to be thinking about studying internationally, Flinders University also offers their Go Beyond Scholarships to students who prefer to study online and from home so that they can stay safe.

There are three Flinders University scholarship types that international students can apply for, so let’s break them down.

The Vice-Chancellor International Scholarships are available to undergraduate applicants that have achieved an equivalent minimum raw ATAR of 95 or above and postgraduate applicants with an equivalent 6.5 GPA or above. These awards offer students a 50 per cent reduction in their tuition fees.

Flinders’ Excellence Scholarships are available to undergraduate applicants that have achieved an equivalent minimum raw ATAR of 80 or above and offer students a 25 per cent reduction in tuition costs.

Flinders also offers Global Scholarships to undergraduate applicants who have achieved an equivalent raw ATAR of 70 or above and exceed the Flinders entry score by a 5 ATAR and to postgraduate applications who have achieved an equivalent 5.0 GPA or above. These awards offer students a 20 per cent reduction in course fees.

You can find out all about these scholarships and the application process on the Flinders University website.

How to apply.

Before you click apply on your preferred course and award there are a few quick things you will want to check off, so here are our suggested steps:

  • Review terms and conditions.

Before applying for any scholarships, it’s a good idea to check the terms and conditions so that you know everything about your preferred award, just in case your circumstances change. (You can review the Flinders awards here.)

  • Check requirements.

Before you can apply for a scholarship you will need to make sure you can study at your preferred university. Double check you meet the requirements for your course and contact the university if you have any questions.

  • Make sure you meet eligibility.

Just like checking your course entry requirements, you will want to make sure that you meet scholarship eligibility. Review the award that you are applying for and make sure you meet requirements.

  • Include all necessary forms.

Now that you know your eligibility and you have met all requirements you can get together all the forms and paperwork that you will need to apply for both your preferred course and scholarship. If you’re applying for the Flinders University Vice-Chancellor International Scholarship, you must also submit your completed Vice-Chancellor International Scholarship form.

  • Submit your application.

Once you have all of your documentation you can apply directly through your university.

  • Accept your offer.

The final (and best) step is accepting your offer and award. Then, start studying!
