Gwyneth Paltrow Was Too Hungry For the "$29 A Week" Food Challenge

Let’s say she consciously uncoupled from the #FoodBankNYCChallenge.

Gwyneth Paltrow has been using her healthy-living website GOOP to promote organic eating for some time now, but it seems she’s only just discovered that not everyone is a millionaire Oscar-winner with a personal fleet of Sherpas to source the finest ingredients from the Himalayan mountainside. (We're just assuming that last thing.)

Paltrow accepted the #FoodBankNYCChallenge last week, during which she pledged to live on just US$29 a week. (That’s the amount American families on the government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - aka food stamps - are allocated.)

You could say it all went downhill for Paltrow when she Tweeted the ingredients from her first shop, revealing her baffling decision to purchase not one, not two, but seven limes. (She says they’re cheap in Southern California, but still… seven?)

As she eventually revealed on GOOP, Paltrow lasted just four days before macking on some “chicken and fresh vegetables (and in full transparency, half a bag of black licorice).”

“My perspective has been forever altered by how difficult it was to eat wholesome, nutritious food on that budget, even for just a few days — a challenge that 47 million Americans face every day, week, and year,” she said.

Maybe now we’ll start seeing some cost-effective ramen recipes on GOOP.
