Guns Can't Stop Cyclones: Sheriff Warns Floridians, "Do Not Shoot Weapons" at Hurricane Irma

A bored Floridian decided to troll the entire state by making a joke event about shooting guns at the incoming Hurricane Irma.
More than 55,000 people were "interested" in his Facebook event, and nearly 30,000 claimed they were going to attend. In the description, it read: "LETS SHOW IRMA THAT WE SHOOT FIRST". But not everyone understood it as a joke.

So, the local Sheriff's department had to step in to clarify that this was not a good idea.
Ryon Edwards, one of the event creators, told the BBC he didn't imagine more than 85,000 people would be interested in going to his "event".
"I never envisioned this event becoming some kind of crazy idea larger than myself. It has become something a little out of my control," Edwards said.
He wrote on the event's Facebook page he was shocked so many people took it seriously.
"On another note, I've learned that about 50% of the world could not understand sarcasm to save their lives. Carry on," Edwards wrote.
"So, check on your neighbors, help out, see if any of your local shelters need help. I shouldn't have to say any of this, but I'm saying it anyway. Stay strong, Florida."
And now, a song to help get the Sheriff's message across:
Don't go shooting hurricanes/ please stick to the targets and glass bottles you're used to...
