A 2022 Study of Uni Grads Has Shown Which Degrees Have the Highest Employment Rate

Employment in all areas is on the rise.

After the pandemic slowed post-uni employment for the past few years, a national survey of graduates has found rates are going up.

The 2022 Graduate Outcomes Survey was conducted by Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching, and analysed how 130,000 recent graduates in Australia fared after uni.

Across the board, employment rates were up – 88 per cent of undergrads found themselves employed (78 per cent full-time), an increase of around four per cent from 2021.

The study also analysed which study areas have the best rates of employment, and which ones are suffering.

Among the best were Pharmacy and Rehabilitation undergrads – both of which had total employment rates of around 97 per cent.

Also included in the top five were veterinary students, medicine and teaching.

Meanwhile, Creative Arts graduates saw the lowest rates of employment – after uni, they were employed at a rate of 81 per cent and only 57 per cent of graduates enjoyed full-time employment.

There were also lower rates of employment for students graduating with degrees in information technology, science and mathematics and communications.

The study also measured gaps in post-university outcomes for students across the board.

In 2022, there were lower overall employment rates for students with disabilities, those who speak languages other than English and students from low socio-economic backgrounds.

However, there were higher employment rates for Indigenous, regional, and remote students.

Unfortunately, the study also revealed the gender pay gap starts at graduation, with female graduates earning an average of $2000 less than their male counterparts.

Although employment rates are on the rise, student satisfaction rates are at their lowest level in a decade.

77 per cent of undergraduates and 80 per cent of postgraduates were satisfied with their degree.

Undergraduate rates of satisfaction have been steadily decreasing since 2020.
