Parallel Universe Alert: “Game Of Thrones” S6 Has Diverged From The (Unpublished) Books

Game of Thrones fans have found themselves paralysed with indecision as Season 6 approaches.

Do they dare watch the show (which has overtaken the published source material) and have George R.R. Martin’s still-unpublished future texts spoiled?

And if they opt-out, will they be able to stand the persistent threat of the TV-watchers telling them who lives and who dies?!

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss want you to chill.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Benioff said the new episodes pretty much take place in a parallel universe to Martin’s works, meaning you can watch the show and read the books, and not ruin the experience of either.

"So much of what we’re doing diverges from the books at this point,” he said.

“People are going to be very surprised when they read the books after the show. They’re quite divergent in so many respects for the remainder of the show."

This indicates that some characters might survive - or not - in different iterations. But in which version does Arya get her eyesight back and exact bloody revenge on all those who’ve wronged her? This is really the only version of Game of Thrones I want to experience.

Season 6, unlike that seemingly never-arriving winter, is actually really close. It premieres on April 24.

  • I think that Season 6 being produced before the book release has negative and positive sides to it. It is good because it means that book readers won't spoil the tv show and so everything that happens will be far more shocking. But it is also bad because even though the producers know what happens in the story they will not have the book to follow therefore making the tv show much more different to the book. I think overall it is bad that this has happened but what can you do, we don't want to wait another 2 years before the book is released for the tv show.
