Frustrated Voters Take To The Streets To Protest Trump's Surprise Victory

A spate of demonstrations have swept the United States in response to the shocking presidential election results.

According to reports from the ABC, thousands of protesters have gathered on the streets of Manhattan, New York in protest of Donald Trump's victory. Mass crowds of demonstrators have flooded the streets, chanting slogans like, "Not my president."

Similar scenes unfolded in downtown Chicago, just outside of the Trump International Hotel and Trump Tower. Frustrated voters chanted, "No Trump! No KKK! No racist USA!"

There have been no reported cases of arrests or violence so far; however, there seems to be palpable tension in the rallies. One 22 year-old demonstrator, Adriana Rizzo, was spotted holding a sign that read, "Enjoy your rights while you can."

Ms Rizzo said she's terrified about what is happening in America. "I'm particularly concerned about the rise of white nationalism and this is to show my support against that type of thing," she said.

Over in Seattle, police responded to a shooting incident with multiple victims near the scene of anti-Trump protests. Officers on the job have insisted the shooting was unrelated to the demonstrations.

The protests don't stop there, either. Hundreds gathered in Philadelphia and Boston, and organisers were busy coordinating rallies in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Oakland, California.

A group of around 300 (mostly Latino) high school students walked out of their classes in Los Angeles. They chanted, "The people united will never be defeated," in Spanish.

One of the organisers behind the walkout, Stephanie Hipolito, was concerned about Trump's proposal to deport undocumented members of the Latino community. "A child should not live in fear that they will be deported," she said.

  • After seeing these many protests in my life I m happy to say that I belong from a non-democratic country..... peaceful and productive...

  • It was America's choice to vote him in, I get that some of them didn't want him but it was their choice.

  • America chose the worst people to be candidates to run for president
