Footy Wrap-Up: The Top Five Moments of AFL Round Two

Who had 'lights out' in their predictions?
Another round of footy has well and truly wrapped up – there was some major upsets, decisive controversies, a couple absolute demolitions and one very weird moment.
So, here’s the top five moments from round two.
5. The Amartey (and McDonald) Party.
No Buddy – no problem.
With Buddy Franklin sidelined with suspension, Sydney’s tall forward duties fell to the young duo of Joel Amartey and Logan McDonald.
With 38 games and 36 goals between them before Sunday’s Hawthorn clash, their experience paled in comparison to Buddy’s 342 games and 1049 goals.
The young goalkickers weren’t concerned however and finished the match with four goals for Amartey and five for McDonald.
McDonald even outscored the entire Hawthorn team.
4. Are Baggers Flaggers?
After Carlton missed finals by a point last year, their dreams of finals success weren’t guaranteed in 2023.
On Thursday night, they proved their mettle.
Taking on the reigning premiers and holding onto an eight-point win proved all the naysayers wrong.
It was the second ever game to feature the previous four Coleman medallists, and the incumbent Charlie Curnow earned his moniker of ‘King Charles’ with six stunning goals.
3. Was it over the line?
It was a confusing evening at Optus Stadium – North Melbourne dominated, and the siren blew as the ball went out of grounds in Fremantle’s forward 50 as they trailed by one point.
The ball was ruled as having gone out before the siren, and the kick wasn’t awarded.
The decision was made to the confusion and ire of players, coaches and fans alike.
But, the AFL ruled on Sunday morning that the umpire’s call was correct, and Fremantle started the season with two losses
2. The Daicos Domination.
It might be Nick Daicos’ second year in the AFL, but he looks to be in Brownlow form already.
After an incredible performance against the Cats last week, Nick Daicos and his brother/teammate Josh lit up the ground in stunning fashion.
The pair combined for an incredible 58 disposals and four goals between them and cemented themselves as some of the best brothers on a footy ground anywhere.
1. Lights out at the Gabba.
Brisbane dominated Melbourne all night on Saturday, and with 12 minutes to go, it looked all but wrapped up.
Suddenly, the lights shut down, leaving the players in darkness, and play was suspended for 38 minutes.
The final twelve minutes saw Melbourne come back, ready to fight, and put together a performance that brought the margin back to eleven, and nearly overcame the Lions.
