Five Tips to Help You Drink More Water

Five Tips to Help You Drink More Water

Be a hydrated babe.

Why is keeping hydrated literally one of the hardest things in the world?

Legit, experts are always telling us we need at least two litres or eight cups of water a day, but I can barely get in a solid four cups (and let’s not even start on the bathroom breaks).

Surely getting enough water in ya shouldn’t be this difficult? Well, ‘cos it’s a pain and we know the struggle, here’s our list of five easy tips to help you drink more water every day.

Invest in a fun water bottle.

When it comes to doing a task you’re either not good at or don’t enjoy, the best thing you can do is try whatever you can to make it fun or enjoyable.

So, with drinking water, your first step should always be investing in a fun water bottle or cup so that you get keener to drink water every day.

Don’t let yourself be strict about it either, you could pick a bottle that’s in your favourite colour, a huge two-litre jug, or even one of those fancy bottles that mark how much water you should be drinking each hour of the day.

Whatever it is, make sure it suits your personality and piques your interest.

Eat more fruit.

This next one is kinda weird but bear with me.

Eating fruit or vegetables throughout the day is a great way to get some water in you if you’re not very good at drinking large amounts of water, or don’t really like the way it tastes.

In fact, some fruits can be up to 90 per cent water, so eating as much of your favourite natures candy is a no brainer.

A great place to start would be trying watermelon, strawberries, rockmelon and even peaches.

Not only will eating fruit get you the benefits of extra hydration, but you’ll also get a super healthy dose of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that will do wonders for your overall health and your skin.

Add fruit, tea, cordial or natural sweeteners to your water.

For all my anti-water babes, why not try adding flavours to your drinks rather than turning to juice or a can of Coke?

Adding some lime, tea, cordial or even a natural sweeter like honey or stevia can do wonders to the way water tastes. It doesn’t matter if there’s a little bit of sugar in it, as long as you’re getting water in you, you’re doing the right thing.

Again, don’t be super strict on yourself here either. If you hate limes, give cordial a go. Or if you prefer a warm drink, find your favourite tea from the supermarket.

You can also pick up cold brew tea infusion bags from most major supermarkets these days, and they’re the bomb.com, so there are no excuses ‘round here.

Invest in a Soda Stream.

This next one is slightly more on the expenny side, so if you have a job or are really good at sweet-talking your parents, this could work for ya.

A huge reason why so many people don’t like water is that it’s not carbonated like soft drinks that we all know and love but buying bottles and bottles of sparkling water is pricey and a huge waste of plastic.

That’s why fans of bubbles should invest in a Soda Stream or any drink carbonation machine.

With a Soda Stream you can make regular ol’ tap or rainwater sparkle like the gods and add whatever flavouring you want to it—getting the hydration with the experience but without the cost or waste.

Pair this tip with the one before it and you’ve got an awesome combo.

Set reminders.

Finally, if your biggest problem (like me) is that you can just never seem to remember to drink water, your best option is to set reminders (and actually follow through with them).

Add notifications on your phone, work computer, school laptop, smartwatch—whatever it is, make sure you have some way of telling yourself to get that hydration in.

Some ways to keep on track of this would be to always keep a bottle with you, or a glass on your desk as another visual reminder.

And that’s it! While drinking enough water is really important for your overall health, try not to put too much pressure on yourself or drink insane amounts of water too quickly.

Your best bet is to drink as much water that feels good for your body but make sure to check in with your GP if you’re still finding it difficult or looking for extra advice.
