Everything We Learned About the Future of Marvel at Comic Con

Everything We Learned About the Future of Marvel at Comic Con

Avengers, assemble!

A lot went down at San Diego's annual Comic Con on the weekend.

But let's be real, most of us are only interested in what record-breaking, action-packed, out-of-this-world goodness we can expect from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thousands of die-hard fans packed the San Diego Convention Centre to catch an hour-long presentation from Marvel chief, Kevin Feige.

They lost their minds at an emotional first look at the upcoming Black Panther sequel, and the announcement of not one, but two new Avengers films.

Feige said the two new titles would wrap up the second "saga" of interconnected movies and TV shows, known as 'The Multiverse Saga'.

But that's not all we've got to look forward to. There's literally so much coming between now and 2025, we decided to group them into what you can expect from each phase. Buckle up.

Phase Four

Fans won't have to wait long for the next title in Marvel's fourth phase, which is perfectly timed given that we've almost recovered from Thor: Love and Thunder.

On August 17, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law drops on Disney+ starring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, alongside Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (duh).

Across nine episodes, Walters will play a lawyer working on superhero-related cases who receives a blood transfusion from her cousin, Banner, giving her Hulk abilities.

Rounding out Phase Four on 10 November is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which we now have our first trailer for.

We knew the role of King T’Challa wouldn't be recast after the death of Chadwick Boseman, but we weren't sure what that meant for the film and franchise. Now we know Wakanda Forever will see Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers.

Phase Five

Dang, there's still two phases to go. Stick with us guys.

Kicking off Phase Five on 17 February is the third Ant-Man instalment, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (referring to the Quantum Zone responsible for all the time travelling in Endgame, but you knew that right?).

All our faves are back for that one, as well as Kathryn Newton as a grown-up Cassie Lang, and Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror (obviously the villain, very villain-like name).

Next is the film we're probably the most excited about—Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Premiering on 4 May 2023, the beloved misfits are back and looking a little different (according to the sneak peek fans got at Comic Con). Peter Quill is reeling from the loss of Gamora but must rally his team around him to defend the universe.

Standard, we know, but we can't wait.

Also hitting the cinemas next year will be The Marvels on 27 July and Blade in November.

The Marvels is of course the sequel to Captain Marvel, following the adventures of a a small-scale all-female team, while Blade is a remake of the sword-swinging, half-vampire superhero.

Then there's a bunch of Disney+ series currently in production and tipped for release in 2023 as part of Phase Five, too.

Echo (a Hawkeye spin-off series about a deaf Native American superhero), season two of Loki, Ironheart (about an engineering prodigy who develops a supersuit similar to Tony Stark’s) and Agatha: Coven of Chaos (a dark comedic WandaVision spin-off series about Agatha Harkness).

If you think that's enough, you'd be wrong.

You can also expect Captain America: New World Order featuring Sam Wilson as Captain America in cinemas in May 2024, and Thunderbolts (did someone say anti-heroes?) shortly after in July.

And lastly will be Daredevil: Born Again—an 18-episode series coming to Disney+ in late 2024.

Phase Six

Phew, we are almost there.

Introducing Marvel's most iconic family, Fantastic Four will take to the big screen in November 2024, ahead of the new (and final) Avengers titles.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty opens in cinemas in May 2025 and is expected to include Ant-Man villain, Kang The Conquerer (pretty obvious given the name, right?).

In the same way that Avengers: Infinity War led into Avengers: Endgame, Phase Six of The Multiverse Saga will start with this one and end with Avengers: Secret Wars.

That's slated for release in November 2025 and, while we don't know much about it yet, Variety says you can "expect all of the characters to show up in this one".

Anything else?

Ha ha—did you think we were done?

There's even more where all that came from, including I Am Groot which will land on Disney+ on 10 August (like, only a fortnight away).

The show will feature five original shorts about Groot with Vin Diesel returning as the voice of Baby Groot. How had we never heard of this before?

Then there's The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which we're not sure is something anyone needs, but here we are.

We don't know much about it, except that it will stream on Disney+ at some stage this year and, according to Variety, will "fill in the considerable storytelling gap between Guardians Vol. 2 and Vol. 3".

The second season of What If...? will air on Disney+ in early 2023, exploring alternative realities for Tony Stark, Odin and Gamora.

X-Men '97 will also drop in 2023, a revival of the animated series that ran during the 90s, and another cartoon, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, will be released in 2024.

Then there's all the movies and shows we don't have dates (or much info at all actually) for. Like Deadpool 3, Armor Wars, Marvel Zombies and untitled Wakanda, Wonder Man and Nova project series.

Wow, that was a lot to digest. Congrats if you made it this far, and we hope the wait til your fave movie or show doesn't feel too long.
