Elsa Might Have a Girlfriend in the "Frozen" Sequel

Director Jennifer Lee admits they'll "see where [they] go."

Since Frozen was released some five years ago (yes, we've been singing "Let It Go" for that long), it's become a bit of a Disney phenomenon.

Aside from releasing an infuriatingly catchy earworm of a song and inspiring female viewers of all ages, it also sparked curiousity among the internet folk.

The question many viewers asked was: Is Elsa Disney's first lesbian princess?

Well, while it was never actually confirmed, it didn't stop fans from starting a hashtag and a Change.org petition.

Now, in an interview with The Huffington Post, one of the directors, Jennifer Lee, admitted that Elsa having a girlfriend in the sequel, Frozen 2, is definitely a possibility.

"I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film―that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people," Lee said.

"Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things."

While it's a disappointingly coy response, it's a step closer to diversifying Disney's relationships (and making the dreams of many Disney fans true).

It isn't the first time that Disney has toyed with including non-hetero relationships. After the trailer for Finding Dory was released, people speculated whether they had Disney-Pixar's first lesbian couple. The studio later explained that the couple "can be whatever you want them to be."

Unfortunately, we'll still have to wait another year-and-a-half to find out with the proposed release date for Frozen 2 penned in for November 27, 2019.
