Ed Sheeran Is Open to Recording a Death Metal Album and We’re Confused

Confused but not mad.

When someone says Ed Sheeran you probably think about his super dreamy love songs, pop hits and acoustic bops right?

I bet the last thing that pops into your head is the image of him screaming along to some death metal music, right? Well, you might wanna get used to that image ‘cos the singer songwriter just revealed that a death metal album from him could be on the cards.

In an interview with The Sun over the weekend, Ed revealed that he’s always been a huge fan of death metal—ever since he was a kid, and that he learned how to play that genre of music on guitar.

“I was really into death metal as a kid. I listened to Cradle of Filth and Slipknot and all that stuff,” he explained to the publication.

“I’m not saying I could ever step into that world. I learnt all those riffs on guitar as a kid.

“That’s something I’ve never thought about doing, but something I would not be opposed to creating.”

Ngl, if Ed can sing, rap, and accurately scream I’m gonna be super impressed. That takes some talent.

Considering Ed has reinvented himself and his genre a few times over, this probably isn’t too far of a stretch for him, but it is vastly different than what we’re used to hearing.

He’s previously created music that fits into a number of genres, including rock, pop, dance, rap, reggae and acoustic, with his latest single “Bad Habits” taking a more synth and dance led feel.

The latest single is topping charts globally, with it sitting at number 5 on the Billboard global hot 100.

The newest album is also set to feature Australia’s lovely Kylie Minogue for the track “Visiting Hours” which the pair wrote for the late Michael Gudinski.

There’s no news yet if this latest album could include a heavy metal song or two but now I’ve got my hopes up.

In the meantime, Ed has been working on his other creative jobs including co-writing BTS’ latest single “Permission to Dance” which was released on Friday and appearing on the latest episode of UK Celebrity Gogglebox with Anne-Marie.

All of these big media and social appearances of Ed are a huge change from the break from the spotlight that the singer songwriter took back in December of 2019, but we’re certainly not complaining.

As for now, it’s unclear exactly when Ed’s next album will be released, but with the delivery of “Bad Habits” in late June, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a Christmas or New Year's album at the latest.
