EB Games Is Closing 19 Australian Stores With Huge Farewell Sales

Lower the dozens of "Sale" signs at the entrance to half-mast.

Welp, EB Games is closing at least 19 of its stores across the country over the next few weeks.

The closures were announced via email to the shutting stores' local customers.

According to the emails, "all stock must go" at the closing locations, with 20 to 60 per cent off marked prices storewide.

A user on ozbargain.com.au has listed the stores that are reportedly closing. They are:

ACT: Majura Park
NSW: Birkenhead Point, Blacktown, Inverell, Rockdale, Tamworth, Winston Hills
QLD: Bribie Island, Cleveland, Inala, Lutwyche, Underwood
SA: Adelaide City Cross, Brickworks, Hallet Cove, Harbourtown Adelaide
VIC: Dandenong, Hamilton
WA: Dianella, Kalamunda

Kotaku verified those stores by searching for them in the EB Games Store locator (where they have apparently been removed).

In a statement, EB Games said that staff at the "unprofitable stores" were "offered the opportunity to work in surrounding stores".

Though there remain more than 300 open EB locations across Australia, many on social media are mourning the closures.

EB Games is literally our only place to get pre-owned games etc. without going online. I really hope they don't close down our only place in Kalgoorlie. While in Perth they got around 3 in the same area. We don't even have a JB-Hi-Fi which sucks.

For those of you who work at #EBGames about to lose their jobs, my heart goes out to you. Thanks for all the fun service and chats- something that online purchases can never replace. I hope you all find some jobs and stability as soon as possible.

Anyway, you have until the end of January to take advantage of the closing sales at the aforementioned stores.

At least these EB Games locations will die as they lived: with "sales" signs cluttering every available space across their shopfronts.
