Everything We Know About “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness” So Far

Mind = blown. 🤯

While most of our jaws were to the floor thanks to The Super Bowl halftime show (courtesy of Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and co.), Marvel fans were given an extra special treat on top of that.

During the big event, Marvel Studios debuted a brand-new trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that took viewers on an incredible whirlwind through the Multiverse.

After years of COVID-induced delay, it’s a long-awaited sequel to the 2016 installment of Doctor Strange, and number 28 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Here’s everything we know so far:

Boundaries are going to be pushed like never before.

There’s a whole load of major developments for the future of the MCU in this one! Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, told Empire that he promises "your head’s going to be spun.”

The trailer sees Doctor Strange waking from a nightmare and dealing with the consequences of his spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home that opened up the multiverse.

With the help of mystical allies both old and new, Doctor Strange is set to navigate the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new opposition.

According to Den of Geek, it also seems the MCU is about to introduce us to their own version of the Illuminati. It’s absolutely nuts and near impossible to unpack here, so we highly recommend sussing out their rundown!

The trailer features the voice of a very familiar professor.

About a minute into the trailer, a voice can be heard saying: "You should tell him the truth" as an imprisoned Strange is brought in front of them.

The Marvel fandom has theories it’s the voice of Professor Xavier played by Patrick Stewart, creator of the X-Men.

As Digital Spy reports, there’s no confirmation or evidence yet to back the theory up. But, Stewart has previously spoken about the possibility of appearing in the MCU.

Mhmm. Much to think about!

So many Marvel faves return, plus more.

Our king Benedict Cumberbatch returns to the role of Doctor Strange, alongside other returning stars – Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer.

Young emerging actress Xochitl Gomez joins the cast as America Chavez, Marvel's first Latin-American LGBTQI+ character.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Olsen returns to the MCU in her iconic portray of Wanda Maximoff.

The film is directed by Sam Raimi, the director of the ‘00s Spider-Man trilogy and the Evil Dead films. So, expect “Zombie Strange, ghostly dimensions, and flinging the camera around like nobody’s business,” according to Empire. Heck yes.

When does it come out?

The film hits Australian cinemas on 5 May 2022, making it part of Phase Four of the MCU.

In the meantime, get keen and search for more easter eggs in the epic trailer:
