Daft Punk Have Called It Quits After 28 Years of Bangers

Fans are heartbroken.

On Monday, the Grammy award-winning music duo Daft Punk shared a video to their YouTube announcing the end of their long career in the most Daft Punk way possible.

The nearly eight minute video titled "Epilogue" shows the robot pair walking in a desert. About halfway through, the pair split up and Thomas Bangalter’s robot character suddenly explodes.

Then, the clip ends with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’s robot character walking off into the sunset, with Daft Punk's last song playing in the background.

Whether you’ve been listening to Daft Punk since the early 90s or you’re more of a recent fan, you’ll know that the duo had a huge influence on the course of electronic music over the years, so the news of their separation is a tough one.

The French music duo have previously won six Grammy Awards and have had major global success since 1997 with hits like "Around the World", "One More Time, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" and, of course, "Get Lucky".

After nearly 30 years of tunes, their publicist Kathryn Frazier confirmed their split on Instagram.

"It’s been the honour and joy of my career and life to have been on this Daft Punk journey," she said.

"Beyond being genius innovators Guyman and Thomas are so generous, lovely and professional. They’ve impacted not just my career but my life in profound ways."

Officially formed in 1993, the pair debuted their first album "Homework" in 1997 and found international attention for their hit "Da Funk", the song that won them their first Grammy nomination.

News of the split has understandably left fans devastated. Many opened up Twitter this morning excited to see the band trending, only to find out it was the end of the road for the pair.

It is unclear if the two plan to enter retirement or begin a new creative venture, but fingers crossed they stay lucky.
