CGA Rising Star Alyla Browne, on “Furiosa” and Balancing Homework

Furiosa, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and now a CGA Rising Star ⭐

When Alyla Browne sat down to speak with Student Edge, she had just finished school and came from performing a Shakespearean duologue of Twelfth Night.

She confessed her friend Zoe messed up a part, but she admits she did have the easy part.

Despite still being a student, Alyla is one of ten actors recognised as Rising Stars by the Casting Guild of Australia (CGA).

She spoke to Student Edge about her experience so far and what she’s excited for in the future.

Landing the role of young Furiosa.

When she’s not performing duologues or taking math and English, Alyla is filming for different parts and playing different roles from TV to film.

Recently, she shared the titular role in Furiosa: Mad Max Fury Road and said it was a lot of rehearsals.

“It kind of just felt like a drama class, but like the best one you’ve ever been to, to be honest,” she told Student Edge.

“After school we went to Greenacre to a studio, which is just a massive warehouse they converted, and just sit in this kind of rehearsal space, looking at each scene throughout the script and kind of unpacking it.

“It was a lot of talking, it was really invaluable.”

Working with Chris Hemsworth and Anya-Taylor Joy 😍

Despite only being a teenager, she’s already fulfilled one of her dreams of working with Anya-Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth.

She admits it was an amazing experience and “Chris is an incredible actor and I think that was really showcased in Furiosa because he got to play an unusual character, a villain, and that was really good to be on set with,” she said.

“With Anya, I actually only got to know her well later on in the press tour when we were in Cairns and London.”

Balancing school & her fave subjects.

It might seem like a lot balancing acting and school, and despite making it look effortless, Alyla admits she needs some advice for all the homework she’s got.

“I feel like I’m not the one to be giving tips, and I need to take lots of tips from anyone I can get them from,” Alyla told Student Edge.

“Next week I have all these assessments, I’ve got three assessments in one day but I’ll be okay.

“Preparation is the key to schoolwork in general.”

We can all remember having three assessments in one day 😮‍💨

Of course, some assessments are fun while others, not so much. But in terms of a fave subject Alyla admits she has a favourite – and it’s not drama!

“I take textiles and design…we had pyjama shorts as our assessments this year so I just finished making my pyjama shorts out of a fabric that I found at school,” she said.

“Technically I recycled it because it was going to be thrown out but I’m very excited because I finished them.

“And it’s not part of the assessment but I’m making a top to match with my friend Gaia.”

And all eyes are definitely on Alyla now as she’s just one young star who has been named as a CGA Rising Star nominee.

Each year, members of the CGA recognise a group of up to ten actors/actresses who they think are going break out on the world stage.

It’s an honour she still feels a little bit in awe of.

“It’s very exciting, I’m proud to say it when I can to people,” she said.

“And I’m excited even just to be with all the other people who got nominated.

“It’s just a really cool thing to be acknowledged for.”

Next for Alyla, she portrays Maria Robotnik in the new Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film which is set to be released 20 December 2024.
