If You Thought The Census Fines Were Just A Joke, Apparently, They Are Not

Haven't actually done the Census yet? The Australian Bureau of Statistics has warned that fines will come your way.

If you're one of the two million households who still need to complete a submission, don't fret.

You've got until Friday to finish it up online and send it through to the ABS. Otherwise, you might be looking at fines of up to $180 per day until it's done. Ouch?

Looks like the ABS is still playing hard-ball, despite the complete and utter embarrassment that was #censusfail, where the entire website crashed for several hours.

If you've been identified as having not filled out the Census, you might even get a personal visit from the ABS, because they're conducting a series of neighbourhood door-knocks. How kind?

Both the Liberal and Labor party have voted against a Senate Bill which, if passed, would have prevented Australians from being fined for not completing the survey.

Considering the spectacular failure of the Census website crash, many Australians reported technical difficulties in filling out the form. Not to mention, there remain the initial concerns pertaining to confidentiality, which means there are people flat-out refusing to complete the Census on ethical grounds.
