Cate Blanchett Could Play Lilith in the "Borderlands" Movie

How do we make sure this happens?

We've known since February that a movie based on the Borderlands video game franchise was in the works, after Lionsgate announced via a press release that the horror director Eli Roth will helm the adaptation.

For those of you who haven't played the video game, Borderlands is a role-playing first-person shooter set on the planet of Pandora, which has been abandoned by a mega-corporation. Since its release in 2009, the series has sold more than 57 million units worldwide.

Given its popularity, fans are keen to know who will play Lilith, one of the game's main protagonists.

Well, sources told Varierty that Aussie actress Cate Blanchett could be stepping into the role.

However, Lionsgate has not confirmed anything yet, so don't get too excited.

The casting choice would reunite Eli Roth and Blanchett, who worked together on The House with the Clock in Its Walls, which was released back in 2018.

While we know Blanchett has some serious acting chops, some fans aren't pleased by the prospect of her playing Lilith. Considering the character in the game looks quite young, and Blanchett is 50, people think the actress is too old for the role.

In saying that, others believe that Blanchett has barely aged, and can slay any role she takes on.

Avi and Ari Arad will produce the Borderlands film through Arad Prods, and Erik Feik will also produce. Emmy Award-winning Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin has written the latest screenplay draft.

The flick's executive producers are Randy Pitchford, who is also the executive producer of the video game franchise, and Strauss Zelnick, the chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive.

There's been no release date set for the movie yet, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.
