Cancer-Faking Wellness Blogger Belle Gibson Skips Court, Despite Facing $1M In Penalties

Belle Gibson – the “wellness” advocate who pretended to have cancer and then pretended to get better – has failed to front up to court where she faces more than $1 million in penalties.
No matter. The case will proceed in Federal Court without her, ABC News reports.
Earlier this year, Consumer Affairs Victoria revealed their plans to take Gibson to court, claiming she contravened consumer law.
The charges were based on the sales of her app and cookbook (The Whole Pantry), which doubled-down on her miraculous claim that healthy eating and holistic medicine cured her terminal brain cancer (which, you’ll remember, she never actually had).
The court has heard that medical documents indicated Gibson had no reasonable basis for thinking she had cancer, even accidentally.
Consumer Affairs Victoria told the court that Gibson had also failed to donate 25 per cent of her company’s profits to charity, which she had publicly pledged.
Today marked the fourth time Gibson had failed to turn up to court and face her charges. Stranger still is the fact Gibson has failed to lodge any defence with the court.
