Boost Your Grade By Living
We get that you don't study 24/7. No one does. Let's talk about ways that you can break up the monotony of the textbook with some real life fun, in a way which is healthy AND could even improve your marks!

  • Sports
Kick the footy around! Oh look, the ball moves in a parabolic arc. Okay, I'm joking, but the point is that getting out and about, pumping some fresh blood around the body and brain, and being social with potential study buddies could be just what you need as a break from your homework. I don't know about you guys, but I often solve difficult problems when I'm doing some exercise, chatting to friends on a walk with the dogs, rowing down the river in the morning's training session and even sometimes during my dreams! Which brings us to:
  • Sleep
Yet another reason that you can't study 24/7. Lack of sleep can cause serious health problems, and it sure won't make you any smarter. It's imperative that you get enough sleep! Think of it as bad 'sleep hygiene' to stay up late, just as it's bad dental hygiene to go without brushing your teeth. Don't expect to perform while you're awake if you neglect to give yourself a proper rest every day. A handy tip: your sleep quality will improve if you go to bed at the same time each night. There are plenty of resources on the net if you want to read more about getting the most out of each night.
  • Music
Play or listen to music. If you can't play an instrument, consider guitar, it only takes a few weeks to learn to strum some basic chords and you're away, it's used in heaps of kinds of music, and you'll be much more fun at parties. If you can play an instrument, learn to play it better, or buy a Theremin. "Why music?" I hear you ask. It's good for you! People often say that math and music go hand in hand, and at the very least you'll be training your brain to think laterally. Now that you can play, join a band. If you can't find one you like, make one! The connections you'll make by getting out there and doing stuff can only help. As Confucius said*: 'The bigger your network, the easier your homework.'
  • Hobbies
Go and do what you love! If you're passionate about things, then just do them. Have good quality study breaks that don't leave you feeling guilty AND let you learn and experiment with whatever floats your boat. Maybe you like stamp collecting. Maybe you like skydiving. If you can have fun experiences in the gaps between your work, everything's going to be loads easier. And as before, find likeminded people. Maybe even a few from your math class.

  • Happy studying!
