Bobi, The World’s Oldest Dog and Goodest Boy, Just Celebrated His 31st Birthday

Now that’s a good ol’ boy 🐕

The pupper who broke the world record for oldest dog, Bobi, just cracked the big 31 over the weekend.

Born in 1992, Bobi, celebrated his birthday in a big way in his hometown of Conqueiros, Portugal.

Over 100 people joined Bobi to mark the occasion on Saturday, just a few months after Bobi was recognised by Guiness World Records as the oldest dog ever.

The party was a “very traditional” Portuguese party according to his owner Leonel Costa, featuring local meats and fish for guests and Bobi, and entertainment from a dance troupe.

Bobi claimed the title of oldest living dog and oldest dog ever in February, taking the latter title from an Australian cattle dog Bluey (no, not that Bluey), who passed away at the age of 29 way back in 1939.

Bobi was born when his owner Leonel was just eight years old. His early days saw adversity when Leonel’s father told him he couldn’t keep the litter he was born in.

But when all the other puppies were taken away, Bobi was left behind, and Leonel and his sister kept him in secret.

31 years later, Bobi’s lived a long and storied life.

Leonel says the key to his longevity has been his human diet, which includes meat and fish, and a tranquil country lifestyle, where Bobi’s never been chained or leashed, rather allowed to explore of his own accord.

“Bobi is one of a kind,” Leonel told Guinness.

Now an old dog, Bobi prefers to sleep in the garden or nap by the fire, but despite his age, he’s still in good health.

Leonel says Bobi is a living part of history and a crucial part of his family.

"Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world. Bobi represents those generations.”

I’m not crying, you’re crying.
