These Are The Best GIFs Of The Year

This week we discovered there is an awards ceremony called the Gifys, which we'll accept without further questioning because awarding GIFs is an awesome idea we wish we thought of first.

The winners of the past year's Gifys - for achievements in GIFery - were announced recently, revealing the most popular and esteemed GIFs as determined by public submissions and decided upon by a panel of experts. (How does one become an official GIF expert? If it requires logging time staring at GIFs on an endless loop, we'd like to submit ourselves for contention.)

From nearly 300 GIF submissions, below you'll find just some of the 2014 victors.

GIF of the Year went to this "real life footage" of President Obama skateboarding, as created by The Tonight Show. It received more than 13,000 votes for the win.

The following were selected as champs in the Art + Design, Film + TV, Music and Sports categories, respectively.

But, perhaps most importantly, these were the favourites in the concisely-named categories Cats and Can't Look Away.
