The Five Best Attractions to Unleash Your Inner Child at the Perth Royal Show

Time to let loose.
The September school holidays in Western Australia can only mean one thing: the Perth Royal Show.
This rite of passage has been ingrained into Perthians since we were young; passed down from generation to generation.
“I remember when Bertie Beetle Show bags just came out.” Of course you do grandma, can we have our money now?
Grandma aside, you’d be hard pressed to find someone in WA who didn’t go to the Claremont Show Grounds at least once in their childhood or teen years to spend their day eating a dagwood dog, riding the tea cups, throwing up a dagwood dog, petting all sorts of farm animals and watching the fireworks before getting stuck in the carpark on the way out (it’s okay though ‘cos your Wizz Fizz showbag made the traffic bearable).
To get you excited for this year’s Show and get the nostalgia juices flowing, here’s the five best attractions at the Perth Royal Show to unleash your inner child.
1. Sideshow Alley.
It’s not the Perth Royal Show without a visit to Sideshow Alley.
This is where every West Aussie’s love of rides originates. From the teacup ride and the Super Nova to the rollercoaster and the Dream Swinger carousel, Sideshow Alley has only got better as time goes on.
They even still have the ferris wheel where we all tried to take our crush so we could chat alone.
2. Monster Trucks.
Something that has been recently added to the Perth Royal Show attractions is the Monster Truck Masters.
Performing every night in the main arena, you don’t wanna miss out on these high-octane big bois getting air off jumps and crushing cars like ants.
They’re loud, obnoxious and everything you ever wanted when you were a kid.
If that isn’t enough, you could be one of 16 lucky show-goers to score a ride on Big Red, their ride-on monster truck.

3. Wood Chopping
Did you even go to the Perth Royal Show if you didn’t watch the Wood Chopping Competition?
From the standing block chop to tree pegging, it’s damn entertaining watching a bunch of burley people have at a log with an axe.
Dead set, the Wood Chopping is a must-see if you wanna relive all your memories of the past. You better get there early though ‘cos the bleachers always fill up fast.

4. Freestyle Motocross
If the monster trucks didn’t impress you, don’t go anywhere ‘cos the freestyle motocross riders will be taking centre stage in the main arena to perform stunts on their dirt bikes.
These freestyle kings will leave your jaw on the floor as they do stuff with their bikes that most of us can’t even do on our own two feet.
Seriously, you’ll froth if you see one of them do a backflip through fire like it’s nothing.
5. Battle of the Bands
It’s about time they had a Battle of the Bands at the Royal Show.
Brought to you by the School of Rock music school in Perth, the Battle of the Bands is happening each day around lunchtime, with a grand final showdown between the top two bands taking place on the last night of the Show.
If you live for good music and love to head bang, make sure you find your way to the main arena to watch the Battle of the Bands.

The Perth Royal Show is happening from 25 September to 2 October 2021. If you're looking to get tickets this year, make sure you download the Perth Royal Show app for your Apple or Android device. Tickets won't be available at the gate at all this year, so you'll need to get your digital ticket through the app.
Due to COVID there is a capacity limit for each day, so you'll need to pick your day in advance. All tickets are 25 per cent off this year and anyone with a student card can get a discounted concession price.
