Our webseries Back to School With invites Australia's most interesting and successful people to share stories from their school days. In each ep, they let us know how they landed their dream careers, as well as how they faced all those inevitable obstacles of teenagerdom along the way.

In the second episode of the new season, we chat with Layne Beachley, a seven-time world champion in surfing and one of Australia's best ever sportspeople. Layne talked to us about her initial plans to become a stockbroker, how she was driven to prove the boys wrong with her surfing prowess, and her struggles with depression, even at the height of her success.

"I was in a state so deep that I was thinking of different ways to kill myself every day."
