At Least the Internet is Taking the Aus Cricket Sandpaper Scandal Well

Cricket Australia is having a hard time over #sandpapergate but at least the internet's fine.

The Australian Cricket team is under fire after one its players, Cameron Bancroft, was caught on film tampering with the cricket ball.

While playing against South Africa in Cape Town, he was found to be using an adhesive tape to rough up the ball so that it bounces differently when bowled. This, my friends, is cheating, and it's not going down well.

In fact, team captain Steve Smith, who admitted to knowing about the offence, was forced to forfeit his fees for one match and has been banned for one Test alongside vice-captain David Warner. Bancroft, meanwhile, has been forced to forfeit 75 per cent of the match's fee and has been given three demerit points.

Current footage of what's going down in the Cricket Australia offices.

When things are going pretty badly, there is one thing that Australians (and probably most people in the world) do quite well. They joke.

And while the punishment has been considered relatively mild by some on Twitter, the online roasting is surely going to even it out a bit.

So, without further ado, here are some of the best takes on the issue.

And if you're one of those thinking about throwing Australian cricket in the trash, don't forget that we have a women's team too.
