How Do I Get a Professional Job With my Casual Job Experience

Get your first professional job with these tips ✨

If you're working and studying at the same time, there might come a point where you'll be looking for your first professional job!

Maybe you've graduated and you are ready to get a job within the field you've studied in. Or maybe it's time for you to venture into a new industry.

Whatever the case maybe, there are ways you can leverage your casual job experience to get your first professional job.

HR professional Lois Andrijich shared with us how we can take the skills we've learned in our retail or hospitality jobs into our professional jobs.

Emma: For our audience can you give them three to five takeaways on how they can write their resume and CV to leverage some of the experience they've already got.

Lois: So link it to the job ad, think about what the job ad is asking and make sure you're reflecting that in your CV.

Lois: If that means rearranging your order of events and kind of when you've done particular things - if you want to put them first that's totally fine.

Lois: It's ok to bold things, I think it's completely fine to bold bits throughout your CV.

Lois: Third thing I would be thinking about what are the skills I have learned in this job. Like if you stand back and think about it because sometimes working...there are skills you are learning all the time so stepping back and thinking what have I actually learned.

Lois: And then how does that align to this particular job ad.
