Ash Barty Has Been Named Australian Sportswoman of The Year

She’s had a stellar year.
World No.1 tennis player Ash Barty has had an incredible season. Earlier this year, she became the first Australian to win a grand slam singles title in eight years. Now, she has been named Australia’s Sportswoman of The Year at the Women’s Health Women in Sports Awards.
The 23-year-old also scored the Moment of the Year award for her brilliant 2019 French Open Grand Slam win over Czech’s Marketa Vondrousova.
Accepting her awards via video, Barty said, "I’m very fortunate to be nominated amongst so many other empowering women in Australian sport and to come away with the win is a bonus."
But these aren’t the only accolades Barty has received recently. Last week, she was awarded The Don at the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in Melbourne, becoming the first female tennis player to claim the honour.
"I’m so grateful and incredibly humbled to win The Don award and to share a room with so many Australian Sporting Greats," she wrote on Instagram.
The prestigious award is presented to the athlete who most inspired the nation. Previous winners include runner Cathy Freeman and swimmer Ian Thorpe.
Of course, awards are great and everything, but Barty has also announced on Twitter that she's teaming up with Vegemite to launch a limited-edition "Bartymite". Does it really get any better than that?
Barty is gearing up for the WTA finals at the end of this month in Shenzhen, China, and then she will return to Australia in November for the Fed Cup final against France in Perth.
