Ash Barty Becomes Australia's Second Number One Female Tennis Champion

The world number one in tennis is an Indigenous Australian woman.
The world has a new number one female tennis player and her name is Ash Barty.
Barty claimed the honour after taking out the Birmingham Classic over the weekend.

Barty beat the German number nine, Julia Görges, in straight sets to take out the Birmingham Classic title just weeks after she won the French Open.
According to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), the 23-year-old Queenslander becomes just the second Australian woman (since 1975 when the WTA rankings became computerised), and the fifth overall, to claim the number one spot in the world. The last time an Australian held that position was 2003 and by Lleyton Hewitt.
Previously, fellow Indigenous Australian, Evonne Goolagong Cawley, held the top position for two weeks in 1976.
In a sporting field where the Kyrgios and Tomics make headlines for bad behaviour on and off the court, Barty has been praised for her humble sportsmanship.
Never change, Ash.
