Apple Overtakes Samsung In The Game Of Phones

When you play the game of phones, you win or you die.

That message has been heeded by Apple Inc., who have overtaken Samsung as the dominant smartphone retailer in the world.

According to Reuters, Apple Inc. sold more smartphones last quarter than Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. This is the first time they’ve done so since 2011.

Much of the credit for the boost in Apple’s sales must go to the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which, ironically, was seen as a response to the larger-screen Samsung Galaxies.

Apple moved 94.83 million iPhones worldwide last quarter and reported a nifty profit of $18 billion for the period. That’s the largest amount ever recorded by a public company.

Meanwhile, Samsung sold a still-impressive 73.03 million phones, though they’ve recorded a 12 percent fall in sales. It’s their fifth consecutive quarter of decline.

But, much like the battle between Oberyn and the Mountain in Game of Thrones, this thing ain’t over until it’s over.

Samsung recently released an even larger Galaxy, christened the Edge.

We would never pick favourites… but that is a great name.
