What You Need To Know About Apple's New iPhones And iPad Pro

Apple CEO Tim Cook - and pals! unveiled the latest updates to the company’s suite of iPhones, iPads and other iParaphernalia at their annual Keynote address.

Though no major game-changers were revealed – such as major iPhone redesigns, which are usually saved for every second year – Cook did note the introduction of 3D Touch to their mobile line.

The iPhone 6S and (remarkably, even larger) iPhone 6S Plus will include 3D Touch, similar to the Force Touch debuted on the Apple Watch. The feature allows users to activate different functionality based on the degree to which they push down on the screen.

It’ll also allow users to create “Live Photos”; meaning, by pressing on a photo with 3D Touch, you will be able to see about a second-and-a-half of footage from before or after the snap. This GIF-friendly feature won’t arrive until the end of the year.

Your iPhone cameras are getting a boost too. The main camera on the 6S models will be 12 megapixels; the front-facing camera, on the other hand, will be five megapixels.

You’ll also be able to snag the new iPhones in Rose Gold, if you’re into that sort of thing.

The other big announcement was that of the iPad Pro, a mightily-sized tablet about the equivalent of the iPad Air. Its epic display has a resolution even richer than the Retina Display of the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

The iPad Pro also includes a four-speaker audio system and a battery that can last for 10 hours without charging.

Also, if you’re feeling old school, you can purchase the Apple Pencil that acts as stylus for the iPad Pro.

These will also become available in November.

Mashable has a nice breakdown of the new inclusions,

The market was mostly underwhelmed by Apple’s announcement, with the company’s stock dropping 1.9 per cent following the unveiling.

It’s the biggest post-keynote drop since 2013, where the 5S models were revealed to the world. It’s worth noting, however, that’s pretty much par for the course when it comes to these odd-year interim updates. (However, I’d partly like to think that the shares slipped on account of the keynote closing with an inexplicable One Republic performance.)

Look forward to – hopefully – some more innovative Apple designs in 2016.
