Alicia Keys Is Not Messing Around; Brought The #NoMakeup Revolution To The BET Awards

In case you missed it, a lot went down at yesterday’s BET Awards.

There was, of course, an epic tribute to the late, great Prince, and a stunning speech delivered by Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams about the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

But revolution was also brewing on the red carpet, where Alicia Keys made good on her #NoMakeup pledge.

After saying on Instagram earlier in the month that she was hoping to lead – or at least contribute to – a #NoMakeup movement, Keys attended the BET Awards sans any kind of concealer.

She elaborated on the movement in a recent Lenny Letter, following a photo shoot where she was encouraged to appear without any makeup.

“I felt powerful because my initial intentions realised themselves,” she said.

“My desire to listen to myself, to tear down the walls I built over all those years, to be full of purpose, and to be myself! The universe was listening to those things I'd promised myself, or maybe I was just finally listening to the universe, but however it goes, that's how this whole #nomakeup thing began.

“I hope to God it's a revolution. 'Cause I don't want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.”
