AAMI’s Rhonda and Ketut Are Back (With Their Baby!) for Another Ad to Encourage Aussies to Get Vaxxed

“Vax up Australia, like a sunrise.”
Are you ready for a throwback? ‘Cos Australian car insurance icons Rhona and Ketut are back on Aussie screens again to help encourage Australians to go get their COVID-19 jab.
You remember the OG ad right? Well, back in 2012, car insurance provider AAMI blessed our eyes with an ad that pictured saucy Rhonda on her summer holiday, flirting with her foxy waiter Ketut.
“You look so hot today, like a sunrise,” Ketut said to the very sunburnt Rhonda.
“Oh, you’re naughty,” she replied, not realising he’s referring to her sunburn.
“Remember, eyes on the road Rhonda,” Ketut responded.
The ad quickly went viral (if you could call it that in 2012) and became beloved among most Aussies for its cheeky humour and that classic line, “you look hot like a sunrise.” Iconic, honestly.
While the one-liner lived on through generations, Rhonda and Ketut’s love story didn’t end there. The pair got together for a whole bunch of iconic ads throughout the 2010s, but it all came to an end in 2015 when the pair came together for a cuddle and dance at Rhonda’s high school reunion.
Watch as Ketut finds what appears to be Rhonda’s anklet on the dance floor before the pair fall into each other's arms.
“I lost it between “Thriller” and “Gangnam Style”,” she said, referring to the anklet with the ‘R’ shaped trinket attached.
“I’m lost, until I found you,” Ketut replied.
Until now, that was the last we saw of the adorbs couple. Now, the pair are living happily ever after as a family, they even have a little bub and all.
The latest ad isn’t quite like the others AAMI has put out in the past. Instead of encouraging viewers to buy their car insurance, they’re encouraging viewers to go get jabbed, all with the help of the happy couple.
Living it up in a sunny, breezy location, the pair (and their freakin’ cute baby) are shown Facetiming the rest of Australia (much like what all of us are doing rn) and rehashing their classic phrase to help Aussies get jabbed.
“Eyes on the future Australia, vax up,” Ketut said instead of “eyes on the road Rhonda”.
“Vax up Australia, like a sunrise,” Rhonda follows.
What an iconic duo.
According to AAMI, not only does the couple have just one kid, but three! And they’ve been taking a break from the limelight to focus on their fam.
“Rhonda and Ketut, the iconic couple known for their Balinese love story, sunglass tans, ‘beautiful brake feet’ and penchant for safe driving have taken a break from Australian TV screens for almost a decade to raise their three kids away from the prying eyes of the media,” AAMI said in a statement.
“Their return to TV is in the national interest—to encourage their fellow Aussies to roll up their sleeves and ‘vax up’.”
Chief Executive of AAMI, Lisa Harrison, said the ad is intended to help communities get back on their feet.
“We understand the significant impact COVID-19 continues to have on our customers, our people and our communities, which is why we strongly support the need for a rapid, efficient, safe and effective vaccination strategy for Australia,” she explained.
“It’s also why we’ve launched our own call to arms campaign proactively encouraging Australians to take action, as getting vaccinated is our ticket to a more ‘normal’ existence and getting back to doing what we love.”
So, if you haven’t had your first COVID-19 jab yet, surely this is the incentive you needed right?
Check out the government’s resources on COVID-19 vaccines, chat with your GP, and book an appointment at your local vaccination clinic. Let’s get vaxxed!
