8 Ways To Stretch Your Allowance

We've all had those days where it's just far too hard to even open your wallet, check your piggy bank or unlock your cash stash, because you know you'll be disappointed with what's inside.
We all want a little extra money, but just as important as it is to earn money, it's crucial to know how to save it as well.
Let's all be honest here: we've all had that moment where we come home, staring at the countless amounts of shopping bags at our feet, too scared to look at the receipts to see just how much we splurged.
Shopping is a major problem when it comes to spending loads of money, but there are ways to prevent the need to buy every item in the store.
Before you go grocery shopping, write a list! It's not a case of OCD; it's common sense. With a list, you'll find it easier to stay focused on what you need and are less likely to stray. Even if you think you are super capable of handling shopping without a list, make one just in case, since there's no harm in it.
Keep an eye on discounts, since there are quite a few good deals out there. However, be sure to have a good hard think about whether it's a good deal for your money, since shops can be sneaky with some of their so-called discounts. Also, remember about sticking to what you need! You'll be surprised how much more people will buy when they're surrounded by discounts. (Don't give me that look, I saw you buy that packet of dog treats that was 50 per cent off the other day. You don't even have a dog!)
If you really don’t trust yourself with shopping, bring a limited amount of money around so you won't overspend. This is a great tip for when it comes to shopping for clothes.
Keep food cheap and ditch the takeaway (or if you're in school, the canteen or cafeteria). In the long run, takeaway and fast food will cost you way more than making your own meals. When you cook with your own ingredients, in your own home, you know exactly what goes into your food and you can make it just the way you like. Peace of mind and more money in your pocket? Yeah, I know: I'm a genius.
It's not uncool or cheap to use gift cards, coupons or vouchers at stores, because what's uncool about saving money? It's also completely okay to shop at op shops or thrift shops. "Only got 20 dollars in my pocket.” Am I right or am I right?
When it comes to grocery shopping, markets will be much cheaper. You could even grow your own produce, if you've got the spare time.
Finally, keep in mind your very own Student Edge card is a great way to get discounts off many things in many places! With these simple tips, you should be well on the way to saving your money. Who knows? Maybe once you have enough you'll be able to buy 20 extra lives in Candy Crush Saga.
