5 Signs You Were Born To Be The Boss

Have you always suspected you were born to rule, but never officially been tested? That all changes, now.
This post is presented in partnership with Adecco.
In this day and age, your chances of suddenly being summoned to oversee an entire kingdom are pretty slim, unless you’re a Khaleesi figure, as in Game of Thrones, and marry into it, or a secret-monarch, like Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries. (If you are, we humbly beg mercy for questioning your claim to the title, Your Majesty.)
For the rest of you who feel destined for greatness, there’s always a future in being a captain of industry; chief-executising for some multi-million dollar company. First, however, you’ll need to see if you meet the criteria below. We’re rooting for you, but hopefully you’re more of a Jon Snow than a Joffrey.
- You have an… aura.
No, not an odour. Rather, there’s just something about you that people can’t quite put their finger on. There are those who call it “je nais se quoi,” and they’re usually French. There are some who say you have wisdom beyond your years; “an old soul.” All you know is that they’re right.
- You can make the hard decisions.
Picking your soccer team and forced to choose between two friends? If you were truly born to rule, you would have no hesitation selecting the stronger player – or more collaborative teammate - over the other, no matter your relationship. You are like Caesar, raising your thumb upwards or downwards, sealing a friend’s fate… at least for the length of one soccer match.
- You actually like listening to people.
This is where a lot of pretenders to the crown stumble. Like King Solomon or the aforementioned Khaleesi, a good boss knows that the needs of the people must be addressed, either by having them line up and bow at your throne, or (less impressively but still significantly) inviting them out for a powwow over coffee. Your ability to express genuine interest in the lives of others, as well as a desire to address their concerns, is instrumental in getting you to the top. Who would have thought?
- You love to delegate.
Hey, what’s the point of being the boss if you can’t enjoy the perks?
- You are thought of as tough but fair.
Your friends come to you for feedback on their new song or painting, or even the wording of their next Tweet, and you tell them with succinct, unflinching honesty precisely what you think. Maybe that feedback will be hard to hear, and yet they take it on board, and come back to you with their updated masterpiece, because deep down they know: you get it.
If you’ve got what it takes, you should apply for Adecco’s ‘CEO for One Month’ initiative, offering young people around the world the opportunity to work at a Fortune 500 company alongside Adecco’s actual CEO, earning a salary at the same time.
