2019 Oscars: "Black Panther" Loses Best Picture to "Green Book" and Other WTF Moments

The ceremony is never without controversy and criticism.

Despite being one of the biggest movies ever made and landing seven nominations at this year's Oscars, Black Panther was not able to take home the award for Best Picture today.

That title instead went to Green Book, a story about an interracial friendship that's been heavily criticised for telling a sanitised version of events.

Black Panther did, however, pick up three other awards on the night, for Achievement in Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Original Score.

Also missing out on the Best Picture prize was Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born, The Favourite, BlacKkKlansman, Vice and the expected winner, Roma (which had to make do with Best Director, Cinematography and Foreign Language Film).

Bohemian Rhapsody still managed to win four other awards out of a possible (how??) five including Best Film Editing and Achievement in Sound Editing; two categories many have criticised were not the movie's strengths.

Exhibit #A.

As for the Best Actor and Actress? That went to Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody and The Favourite's Olivia Colman.

Stealing the show was Olivia Colman's acceptance speech, showing the world why she truly is deserving of two Queen titles.

Until next year, see ya later Oscars.
